Swimming – The best exercise for your baby

Swimming – The best exercise for your baby

Swimming is the only activity where babies are entirely self-reliant, especially before they would start walking and crawling. Water supports your baby’s weight due to which they can move their arms and legs as much as they want and they really love it. Mostly, you should teach your baby to swim when he or she is 6-12 months old. By this age, the majority of infants are mature and comfortable in water. Infants still have a memory of the unstable environment in the womb. It is easier to teach water adjustment and breath control before this stage begins. It is never too late when using an interactive and creative a course of study.

You must have seen baby’s picture of swimming underwater with their mouths open. There are still, some general points to keep in mind. If your baby is unwell or has cold, do not go swimming as this might make it worse. Once you are in the swimming pool, and if your baby starts trembling, then immediately take your baby out of the water and wrap them up in a towel. Babies should not be in the water for more than thirty minutes as they tend to get worn out easily. I would suggest you to remember these tips when you are take your baby to swim in the water:

  • The best time to teach your baby how to swim in the water is while bathing them. You just need to splash water gently over your baby’s body.
  • You can visit with your baby to the public swimming pool and also ask your friends to join with their babies. Make sure that you maintain good amount of silence as babies like to be quiet and they can get distressed in noisy places.
  • When you are in the swimming pool, make sure that your baby’s face is very close to yours and always keep an eye contact. It is very important because your baby feels that you are close by to protect them in any situation.
  • Always blow bubbles in the water because this would help your baby to do this with their mouth and breathe when they are in the water.

If you are planning to go regularly to the swimming pool, it is worth investing time with your baby. At first, your baby will just enjoy the perception of water and the interaction with you. Also you can encourage your baby’s confidence in the water by keeping your face at eye level, maintaining eye contact, by smiling and talking to your baby.
